Moo Free's Ethical Policy

All aspects of our business are based on the highest ethical standards. This is a core principle of our company. An outline of some of the ways that we implement our ethical principles are outlined below.

The Environment

Making chocolate can be very messy, but we make sure that none of that waste goes to landfill. We recycle everything that we can and ensure that what cannot be recycled is used for other environmentally friendly purposes such as zero carbon emission energy generation.

We want to do everything that we can to reduce the environmental impact of our business. To help acheive this we try to make our packaging as sustainable as we can. All of our packaging is either recyclable or bio-degrades as quickly as possible. So, please help us by recyling everything that you can.

Ethical Ingredients

We use ethically sourced, organic and vegan friendly ingredients in all of our products. One of the most direct and often overlooked benefits of organic farming is the omission of pesticides creating safer working conditions for farmers and wildlife in the countries where our ingredients are grown. Choosing ingredients that have been organically grown also helps to conserve biodiversity, reduce erosion and the amounts of pesticides in drinking-water.

At Moo Free we do not care if you are male, female, black or white, have a disability, were born in a different country or what sexual orientation you may have. What we care about is if you can do your job and that you treat other employees with respect.

There are probably slightly more women than men working at Moo Free, but that's not because we discriminate against men. The Managing Director and co-founder of Moo Free is a woman and even Hammy Hamster is a "she".

If you do the same job at the same level then you will get paid the same money regarless of your gender. If you are very good at your job then you may get paid more money, but gender will have nothing to do with it. Period.

We work with a local charity to provide employment for some amazing people who are autistic. As a result around 20% of our workforce normally consists of people with autism. For the majority of these people it is their first job, which is as wonderful and exciting for us as it is for them.

Finally, if you are lucky enough to work at Moo Free then you are in for lots of extra treats including MooFest, which is an annual event for all staff and their families. This normally takes place in summer, in a large field and consists of music, lots of free foods vans, bouncy castles and lots of fun games. Sometimes there is even a sock burning ceremony and people falling into streams.

Local Community

Supporting The Local Community

We strive to help and support the local community around our factories. As well as providing a lot of employment, the things that we do locally include:

  • Sponsoring the local Bude Ladies football team by paying for their football kits.
  • Sponsoring the local Bude Boys football team by paying for their football kits.
  • Helping to fund St Peter's Fair, which is a free, week-long music and entertainment event which takes place in the town square.
  • Providing funds to help rebuild and improve the local sports and community pavilion.
  • Helping to provide free WiFi in the local town square.

The Moo Free Friends

Finally, the Moo Free brand revolves around a group of animal friends who run a chocolate factory. Each product flavour features a different animal and each of these characters belongs to a different member of staff. Well, apart from one who belongs to a little cheeky monkey.
